Important

Short-term visa holders cannot register.

Applicants need a reservation to visit the competent immigration office. However, it is temporariliy exempted from January 1, 2023.

Foreigner registration

Long-term visa holders must register at the competent immigration office within 90 days of entering Korea. Without registration, you may be deported. Usually, accommodation like hotel cannot be the place of stay.

F4 visa holders can report the residence place at the competent immigration office instead of foreigner registration.

In principle, you must visit the competent immigration office in person. This is for identity verification and fingerprint enrollment.

Certain visa holders must submit the health certificate with registration.

You will get a residence card unless you are below 17 years old. You must apply for residence card issuance within 90 days from the 17th birthday.

If you entered with single-entry long-term visa and departed without foreigner registration, you must apply a new visa again unless you are exempt from registration.

Residence card reissuance

Application for reissuance of registration card is required within 14 days after the incident such as below.

• Loss
• Wear
• Blank short
• Got a permit to change status of stay
• Reported the change of registered information
• Renewal policy from the authority

Permanent residence card must be reissued every 10 years.

Report of the change of registered information and residence

You as registered foreigner must report changes of registered information to the competent immigration office within 15 days after the incident such as follows:

• Change of name, gender, birth date, nationality
• Change of passport number, issuance date, valid period *This means the renewal of passport in your country
• Change of attendance at elementary school, middle school or high school for a minor
• Change or addition of workspace and change of its name for D1, D2, D4 ~ D9 visa holder
• Start of training or change of company and including change of its name for D10 visa holder
• Start working or change of workspace and including change of its name for H2 visa holder
• Change of occupation or annual income for D7, D8, D9, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, F2, F4, F6, H2 visa holder

You as registered foreigner must report the updated address to the new competent immigration office or local government within 15 days after moving to the other place.
